November Newsletter

Hello Tech Leaders!

Greetings from Minneapolis! Us Minnesotans were fortunate to dodge the downpour of snow that hit many of our fellow midwest states the past couple weeks. However, word is Mother Nature will be seeking her revenge within the next couple weeks.

October Recap

October brought many exciting opportunities to spread the Developer First mission including a very fun and entertaining workshop within my own organization (Target Corp!), MDC, a formal presentation at JAX London Java conference, an engaging presentation with many inspirational IT leaders at EFM's Siouxland IT Symposium, and a workshop at Kansas City DevOps Days. Finally, I was very fortunate to make the 8 hour commute this week to Antwerp, Belgium to facilitate a workshop with 150+ wonderful leaders in tech at Devoxx.

I am looking forward to taking a couple weeks off from traveling to prepare for our local Foundations of Tech Leadership (tickets still available - see below for discount code!) and spend time with Kyle and our sweet K9, Ralph.

I also wanted to highlight a couple ideas to serve underrepresented communities in tech this month. First, you can partner with Genesys Works to become a mentor or host an amazing intern (I know they are amazing from personal experience). GW's mission is to provide pathways to career success for students in underserved communities through skills training and impactful relationships.

Second, you can volunteer your time as a mentor, mock interviewer, or networking event planner with She's Coding. She's Coding is a nonprofit organization with the main goal to help close the gender gap in tech.

Thank you for your continued support and stay warm this November!

Check out all of their episodes - I especially enjoyed the interviews with Michael Lopp, Camille Fournier, and Eoghan McCabe.
